Understanding what your relative experienced during the First World War can be difficult. Records are often incomplete, and even when they survive, they can be hard to interpret.

I offer a research and interpretation service to help you make sense of your soldier’s story—combining surviving records with battalion war diaries and knowledge of the Western Front.

What I Offer

Each report is written in clear, straightforward language and focuses on helping you understand what your relative experienced, rather than simply listing documents.

Depending on the information available, this may include:

Context of the battles they were involved in

Important Note

Due to the nature of First World War records—particularly for British soldiers—some information may no longer exist. Where this is the case, I will try to find the relevant battalion war diaries and historical context to build the most accurate picture possible.

A more detailed report combining available records with battalion war diaries.
Includes a written timeline, explanation of movements, and the battles your relative experienced.

A full report including all of the above, plus:

Guidance on visiting these sites today
A connection between the history and the landscape as it stands now
